Navan O’Mahony’s young Junior F team bowed out of the competition at the semi-final stage, played in stormy conditions in Cortown on Monday evening. It’s our first year to have a third team, so it was a great achievement for the ladies to get this far.

After five minutes, Caoimhe Mulchrone scored the first score of the game with a goal.  Ten minutes later, Sophie Bermingham made an impressive save.  Almost twenty minutes passed before the second score of the game, when Emma Sheridan pointed from play.

St Ultan’s first score of the game came with a point in the twenty-eighth minute, followed by a goal three minutes later. Erin Moore responded well to this, getting a goal within a minute and adding a point on the cusp of half time.

O’Mahony’s knew they would need a big second half performance, playing against a gale. The St Ultan’s keeper made some great saves and Moore got the first score of the half, extending the lead to five points.

Only the bare minimum separated the sides in the tenth minute, when St Ultan’s followed a point with a goal. Two minutes later, a third goal for the home side gave them the lead for the first time.

Three points was the deficit after another score from the home side, and O’Mahony’s battled hard to reduce it but scoring proved difficult against the wind. Sheridan managed to add two points in the final quarter, but St Ultan’s kept the edge and led by four when the final whistle blew.
