Conor McEvoy stepped up at the last minute to secure victory for Navan O’Mahony’s in this Div 5 FL encounter in Cortown on Friday evening, ensuring the unbeaten run in this division continues for the Brews Hill side.

The sides exchanged points early, with Cortown getting the first score and Paddy Yourell opening for O’Mahony’s. The hosts pushed on and had built up a 1-05 to 0-02 lead early in the half, with Yourell again scoring O’Mahony’s second point. Killian Clarke Doggett pointed to reduce the deficit and when Tiarnán Black found the net, only two points separated the sides.

Black then made it a one point game before Clayton O’Sullivan powered home another goal to give O’Mahony’s the lead for the first time in the match. A two-pointer for Cortown left the sides level approaching half time until Shane McCarthy edged O’Mahony’s ahead before the half time whistle.

Cortown drew level quickly after the resumption before taking the lead until Black pointed to leave the sides on equal pegging once more. The first two-pointer of the match for O’Mahony’s also came from Black to edge them ahead.

Eoin Joyce kicked a point and Cortown also split the posts, leaving O’Mahony’s ahead by three. Four points in a row from the hosts approaching the end of the game looked like the game would be snatched from O’Mahony’s until Joyce stepped up to leave things level in the sixty third minute.

Cortown missed a late free and O’Mahony’s won the resulting kickout and worked the ball well up the pitch. McEvoy won possession at the right time, bursting his way through a number of tackles and picked his spot between the posts, sealing a last minute victory.
