O’Mahonys welcomed Drumree to Paddy O’Brien Park in beautiful sunshine for the second round of the Division 4 camogie league. The teams were evenly matched in the opening exchanges and scores were hard to come by. The home team eventually got on top around the middle third and created some good scoring opportunities for a dangerous forward line in which Mia McNally was particularly impressive at top of the right.
At the other end of the field, a couple of timely interventions by full back Amanda Feeney prevented certain scores for the visitors. Undoubtedly the highlights of an entertaining first half were excellent long range points from play by wing back Kitty O’Rourke and wing forward Milly Murray.
Drumree had the benefit of the slight breeze for the second half and certainly took full advantage of the elements. They exerted control around the middle of the field and now it was the O’Mahonys full back line that was under pressure. Having scored two goals during this purple patch half way through the second half, they managed to cut the home side’s lead to just a meagre two points.
Credit to the O’Mahonty’s, girls they didn’t panic, and after some last ditch defending around their own square, they managed to work the ball up the field to nail a couple of late scores which put the result to bed.
Special mention to the three players Moya, Amanda & Aoibhinn who “volunteered” their services in goals when none of their normal net minders were available on the day.
