Navan O’Mahony’s 2-01
St Peter’s Dunboyne 3-03
This third round encounter of the Div 1 FL will not be remembered as a classic, with the conditions making it difficult for quality football.
Although both sides had attempts at scores, these were wide or dropped short and no scores were registered in the first quarter. Órlaith Mallon opened the scoring with a goal in the fifteenth minute but this was soon nullified by a similar effort at the opposite end of the pitch.
The hosts managed to add on another couple of goals before the interval, all the while keeping O’Mahony’s scoreless and the scoreline at half time resembling a different sport.
Navan O’Mahony’s 1-0
St Peter’s Dunboyne 3-0
As the game went on, any hope of the conditions easing faded and they deteriorated if anything.
Dunboyne extended the lead to seven with a point early in the first half but O’Mahony’s weren’t going down without a fight. Sophia Fitzherbert looked to be through on goal but was cleared from the line by a Dunboyne defender. Milly Clarke Carolan was on hand to win the rebound and found the net to leave four points between the sides again.
Dunboyne always managed to stay just out of reach for the remainder of the match however, with the aid of two converted frees. Mallon scored a free at the other end of the pitch which proved the final score of the game, leaving O’Mahony’s with their first loss of the competition.
