Milly Clarke Carolan, in spite of playing the first half in the goals, was the top-scorer in this Div 1 FL encounter, played in Paddy O’Brien Park on Saturday evening, finishing with 2-01.
Charlie Murray started the scoring with a point in the second minute, with Denise McGrath following up with a goal almost immediately, giving O’Mahony’s the edge right from the start. Eimear Fay kicked a good score before McGrath and Murray combined for another good score.
Over ten minutes passed without score, with both sides missing a number of missed opportunities. Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s best opportunity came when a powerful shot was rebounded off the crossbar. Similarly, what looked like a point was delivered to safety after it hit the upright and back into play.
Muireann Nelson and Chloe Duffy added scores before half time. With five minutes remaining, Donaghmore/Ashbourne added their first score, followed up a few minutes later. The hosts went in with a six point advantage.

The first five minutes of the second half passed without a flag from the umpires. Again, it was Murray who got the first score, with an impressive point after six minutes.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s only score of the second half came courtesy of a ninth minute free. McGrath, Nelson and Lilly Dwyer all added scores in the minutes that followed. After ten minutes without score, Clarke Carolan scored her first point which she followed up within two minutes with a goal.
Within five minutes, she added her second goal, immediately following another point from McGrath. Points from Orlaith Mallon, Murray and McGrath finished out the match, with O’Mahony’s running out as comfortable winners.
